Understanding different types of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can be both challenging and time-consuming. Yet to ensure positive outcomes, quality-first teaching and targeted interventions are essential.

This course provides practical, accessible, and inclusive strategies for meeting the needs of pupils with SEND—including those with autism, dyslexia, ADHD/ADD, and other learning differences.

Alongside classroom provision, the course also explores individualised support strategies, making it suitable for all educators, including newly qualified teachers, experienced classroom staff, SENDCOs, and specialist support roles.

  • Common defence mechanisms and behavioural responses

  • Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD)

  • How to engage all staff in supporting SEND learners effectively

Session 2: Effective Support for Autism and ADHD

  • Strategies for raising attainment in students with autism

  • Understanding PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance)

  • Supporting students with ADHD/ADD in everyday school life

Session 3: Effective Support for Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties

  • Identifying and understanding Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)

  • Promoting student voice and problem-solving through conversation

  • Practical, confidence-building teaching activities for dyslexic students
